Rejoicing Over the Enemy

I first learned of Bin Laden's death on Facebook but it wasn't until mid evening yesterday that I heard an actual news report. With the television tuned to CSPAN, I listened to various White House and cabinet spokespersons field questions from dozens of reporters. Following the briefings, every politician who could possibly capture the eye of the camera, spent 5, 10, or 15 minutes congratulating the president and the Navy SEALS for killing Bin Laden.
I have no doubt that Bin Laden hated every American. I have no doubt that he wanted to kill all of us. I am also certain that many, if not most, of the politicians celebrating the success of the military operation consider themselves to be Christians. Yet I never heard anyone express regret for the taking of a human life.
Whether killing Bin Laden was necessary or justified is another issue. My question is this: no matter how great the evil, shouldn't Christians value every human life?
